So one of my favorite things to see/ hear is when people take a song and make it their own. Hobbie Stuart did that with his cover of Rihanna’s ” What’s my name? “. During the course of song I honestly forgot it was a Rihanna song I was actually listening to. For me that is what it’s all about. Interpreting something and recreating it in your point of view. With just under 120,000 views in under a two months tells me I am not the only one liking his point of view.
So, if you live in or around Tampa, your all about drinking Miller light, and you happen to love music. 97x Hooks it up every december with the concert they put on every year, “The Next Big Thing”. The concert goes from 10am to 11pm. starting with both local and national up and comers in morning / early afternoon, to national bands on the rise in the afternoon, to worldwide bands at night! All I have to say is I live in the city that has the coolest radio station! Thank you to Shark, Fisher and Boy, and the rest of the 97x crew!
Anyways, it just so happens that this years NBT was on Dec. 5th, A.K.A. Both my grandfather and my fathers birthday! at first, I was upset thinking I was going have to pass up the concert this year. After going on the 97x website and looking at the set list…
Obviously Both of their Birthdays got Moved to the 4th. Were they happy about it? NO. Was my brother happy? Ecstatic! That was the easiest / best decision of this moth so far.
Every band pretty much brought the noise, but My Chemical Romance Stole the show. Tampa had waited four years to since last seeing them, and The release of their newest album Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys was the perfect re-introduction! I was expecting Gerard and the gang to just play the new record, but was extremely surprised to see they played a couple old songs. The 20,000 in attendance screaming at the top of their lungs “na na na na na” i must say was pretty epic! All in all another great concert!
My latest find on the web, is 17 year old Katie Gavin. First she entered and won the Sara Bareilles karaoke contest, Then I watched her cover of Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” and instantly my ears shot up! Stripping the song down to acoustic, changing the arrangement, and adding her unique vocals and personality making the song her own. Now, a couple weeks later finally getting much deserved notice with over 120,000 views!
The video posted here is called “Hungry Heart”, one of Katie’s originals. As soon as I heard this song, I thought this would have been a great score for the movie 500 Days Of Summer. The song basically describes a person’s relentless pursuit for love. At 17 years old, Katie Gavin paints these vivid pictures with her lyrics that would make you think she has been writing hits in the music biz for years. You can download all of her music here for FREE! Katie definitely has potential, and you should be on the look out for her!
